02.09.06 - Pierre's blog: "Paris Paris"
It's about midnight in Paris and I just got back to my hotel room after a few drinks with chuck, Pat and friends at the lobby bar. It's been kind of a long day. I woke up this morning at 9am in Madrid, took a shower, packed my stuff into my one backpack and took off for the airport for our noon flight to Paris. I always hate waking up and going to the airport cause just when you're about to get out of sleep mode, you have to sit somewhere and wait, and then sit somewhere else and do nothing for a few hours. By the time you've finally landed, you're just all messed up and tired again.
But anyways, we landed around 2:30pm and then hopped in a van for a 45 min drive to downtown Paris (more sitting and waiting....). One of the funny things about traveling is how you get used to the things that others find so amazing, like going to Paris. We've been to Paris almost ten times now and even though you always hear people say: "OOOOhhhh.... Paris!!! You're so lucky! It's such a romantic place..." Honestly after a while, it just feels like another city, not because it isn't amazing, but because I've been here before and I've seen most of what it has to offer. I almost feel like a jerk writing this, but it's true. We all get used to things after a while no matter how great they are. For example, someone who lives by the rocky mountains won't find it as breath taking to be a the foot of the tallest mountain; someone who grew up by the beach won't be blown away by the power of a huge wave breaking. I guess that's why we should always keep ourselves in check and remind ourselves that we are lucky when we see or experience something beautiful. So after we finished our interviews, I went to the top floor of our hotel and walked out on the terrace where I had a perfect view of the Eiffel tower. At 7pm every night, they light the whole tower with flashing sparkling white lights for exactly 10 min, so I stood there and waited for 7 o'clock to come around and I watched the entire spectacle. It really was worth the wait. I tried to take a picture but it didn't look at all as beautiful as what my eyes could see. After the the light show was finished, I walked back down to my room on the second floor and i thought to myself: "Wow... I'm in Paris... That's pretty cool!"
I don't really know where I'm going with this, but I guess today was one of those days where I kept myself in check. I love what I do, and I'm glad to be here.
See you at the show.
